Ministry of Electronics and IT will soon come with SOPs in line with the PLI scheme for manufacturing of mobile phones to capture demand for wearables, hearables as well as Internet of Things devices.

The Modi government is planning a big push for manufacturing of new technology devices in India. According to a Times Network report, the Ministry of Electronics and IT will soon come with SOPs in line with the PLI scheme for manufacturing of mobile phones. The scheme will be aimed at capturing the huge, anticipated demand for wearables, hearables as well as Internet of Things and VR devices. Vishal Gondal, Founder and CEO at GOQii told ET Now in an interview that wearables are the low hanging fruit in manufacturing because the complexity required for making them is much lower than other devices and it can be manufactured fairly easily in India.

‘I am glad that the government is thinking about the internet of things in a big way because Indians are adopting wearables and all kinds of devices. I would say not only manufacturing in India, but I think the government should also need to put in regulations in and around storage of this data in India as well,’ says Gondal.
